| BusinessWire Cymbet Showcasing Permanent Power Solutions Using EnerChip™ Thin-Film Batteries at ESC 2008 ConferenceEmbedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley 2008 ELK RIVER, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cymbet Corporation today said that it will showcase permanent power solutions using its EnerChip™ thin-film semiconductor batteries at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) April 15-17, 2008, in San Jose, CA. Launched in late 2007, and now commercially available worldwide, EnerChips are designed for semiconductor, medical, sensor, RFID, communications and portable electronic devices. The new EnerChip family of thin-film battery devices offers a truly unique combination in battery technology: fast charge times, >5000 recharges, reflow solderable and eco-friendliness. The devices are ideally suited for applications such as back-up power and energy harvesting. EnerChip-based solutions can be seen at ESC 2008 in the Cymbet booth 2246 and in the Texas Instruments 3rd-Party Pavilion - booth 1708. The small EnerChip form factor and highly rechargeable, solid-state, thin-film advancements can be economically and reliably integrated as an embedded device or as a surface-mounted component. Cymbet’s EnerChip product line is well suited for applications where back-up power is needed to maintain the settings of microcontroller memories, real-time clocks and SRAM during power loss or power failures. Additionally, all EnerChip products can be lead-free reflow soldered (260 Degrees C) using automated high-speed assembly processes, which significantly reduces assembly cost. The devices offer a fast recharge time (under 30 minutes to 80 percent), are capable of greater than 5,000 charge/discharge cycles, and do not suffer from the self-discharge limitations associated with super capacitors or shelf-life limitations common to chemical batteries. Currently, EnerChips are available in power capacities of 12 and 50uAhr, and 85uAhr will be available later this year. “When coupled with energy-harvesting or energy-scavenging techniques, an EnerChip can supply the energy storage to build self-contained, long-lived powered systems and improve on the traditional battery power approaches,” said Cymbet CEO Bill Priesmeyer. “Using an EnerChip battery to power sensors, RFID tags or other remote devices—in combination with energy already available in the environment—is both cost and environmentally beneficial.” About Cymbet Founded in 2000, Cymbet Corporation—a clean technology company—is a leader in thin-film, solid-state battery technology. The company is the first to market a true solid-state energy system enabling new embedded systems designer capabilities. The company's thin-film battery system will enable new concepts in battery application for ICs and new products for medical, sensor, RFID, communications and portable electronic devices.
